STORY
asanone is a 100 year old traditional Japanese style house that has been renovated and brought back to life. There is rented out to only one group per day, where you can spend your time as you like.
asanone is located in Higashi-Agatsuma Town, Gumma Prefecture. It stands quietly at the foot of where the Agatsuma River flows freely and peaks such as Mt.Iwabitsu and Asama-Sanin.
Hemp has been cultivated in this area since ancient times. The hemp grown in Agatsuma County, Gunma Prefecture is called “Jyoshu-Kita-hemp,” and the hemp grown in this area is said to have been widely distributed in Japan as a synonym for the highest quality hemp.
Before World War II, it was sold to Niigata, Toyama, and Nara for weaving, and to Mie, Chiba, Shizuoka, Miyagi, and Shimane for fishing nets. The finest hemp was used for high-grade clothing fabrics, single fishing line, and bowstrings.
However, after the war, the production of hemp began to fade away due to the shift to synthetic fibers. The demand for hemp declined, and the handicrafts that had sustained the region were also in danger of disappearing.
We would like to convey the hemp culture and the way of life that has taken root over many years and continues to support this land. We also want people to get away from their daily lives and spend time nourishing their minds and bodies.
After traveling all over the world and arriving in Higashi-Agatsuma, it was with this in mind that asanone, a hemp village inn, was born.

Soon enough, blossoms will grace us.
Let us firmly anchor our roots in the ground.
